Jeffrey V. Rocha

Jeff Rocha is an associate in Berman Tabacco’s San Francisco office. Since joining the firm in 2019, Jeff has dedicated his career to advocating for clients in complex securities cases, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that their rights are protected.

Prior to joining Berman Tabacco, Jeff focused his practice on commercial litigation and insurance fraud qui tam actions. In that capacity, Jeff assisted a legal team responsible for obtaining millions of dollars in civil judgments against individuals and entities involved in widespread criminal conspiracies.

Jeff attended law school at the University of San Francisco, where he graduated cum laude and received a business law certificate with honors. During his studies, he earned a CALI Award of Excellence for the Future in contracts and served as a judicial extern for three San Francisco judges.

Before studying law, Jeff earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Corporate Finance from California State University, Fresno. After completing his undergraduate studies, Jeff worked for a national brokerage firm as a series 7 and 63 licensed senior stockbroker, gaining valuable insights about capital markets and firsthand experience in the field of finance.

  • Currently serves as the lead associate in the case Erwin v. Veradigm Inc., No. 1:23-cv-16205 (N.D. Ill.), in which the firm represents the sole lead plaintiff Alameda County Employees’ Retirement Association in a securities fraud class action against health technology company Veradigm Inc. brought under Sections 10(b) and 20(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as well as SEC Rule 10b-5, alleging that the company made materially false and misleading statements during the Class Period regarding its revenues, gross margins, and earnings growth.
  • Currently serves as an integral member of the litigation team in the case In re Aegean Marine Petroleum Network, Inc. Securities Litigation, No. 18-cv-04993-NRB (S.D.N.Y.), a securities fraud action brought on behalf of investors of Aegean Marine Petroleum Network, Inc. (“Aegean”) against certain of Aegean’s former officers, directors, and auditors. As a member of Berman Tabacco’s litigation team, Jeff helped secure a global settlement of $41,749,999 on behalf of the settlement class.
  • Was the lead associate in Hayden v. Portola Pharmaceuticals Inc., et al., No. 3:20-cv-00367-VC (N.D. Cal.), a securities class action in which the firm represents the sole Lead Plaintiff Alameda County Employees’ Retirement Association. The parties reached a settlement for $17.5 million, which was approved by the court on March 6, 2023.
  • Served as the day-to-day associate in Utah Retirement Systems v. Healthcare Services Group, Inc., et al., No. 2:19-cv-01227-ER (E.D. Pa.), a class action brought by Lead Plaintiff Utah Retirement Systems on behalf of investors in Healthcare Services Group, Inc., one of the largest providers of housekeeping and laundry services to hospitals and other healthcare service organizations. The parties reached a settlement for $16.8 million, which was approved by the court on January 12, 2022.
  • Assisted Berman Tabacco’s litigation team in In re Aqua Metals, Inc. Securities Litigation, No. 4:17-cv-07142-HSG (N.D. Cal.), a securities fraud class action brought on behalf of investors of Aqua Metals, Inc. The parties settled the matter for $7 million, which was approved by the court on March 2, 2022.
  • Member of the firm’s Corporate Governance and Shareholder’s Rights team, dedicated to investigating potential oversight and breach of fiduciary duty claims on behalf of corporations and their stockholders.
  • Assisted in the representation of the nation’s largest insurance carriers in numerous fraud qui tam or “whistleblower” cases proceeding against a wide spectrum of defendants including corporations, officers, directors, doctors, lawyers, hospitals, clinics, health management organizations, chiropractors, medical device manufacturers, check cashing facilities, and automotive repairs shops, among others.
  • Second chair trial experience in a case venued in San Francisco County.
  • Successfully resolved a significant number of general litigation matters as lead counsel at mediation and mandatory settlement conferences.
