Berman DeValerio raised the equivalent of 43,964 pounds of food for Massachusetts food banks in two weeks, topping competitors in the Legal Food Frenzy for the second year in a row, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced April 16th.
“Congratulations to Berman DeValerio for winning the Legal Food Frenzy Cup and thank you to all the other participants for joining us in this friendly competition,” said Attorney General Coakley, the event’s organizer. “The dedication and generosity of the legal community will provide meals throughout the Commonwealth and help families put food on the table.”
Overall, the Legal Food Frenzy raised the equivalent of more than 712,000 pounds of food, the most in its five-year history. More than 60 Massachusetts legal organizations participated in this year’s competition, collecting food and money during a traditionally slow time for donations. The proceeds will go to the state’s four food banks, which serve more than 800 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.
Since the first Legal Food Frenzy in 2010, the event has raised the equivalent of more than 2.3 million pounds of food, providing more than 1.5 million meals to the state’s hungry residents. This year, Berman DeValerio’s 26-person team raised the equivalent of 1,690 pounds of food per capita to take the Cup.
“I would like to give thanks to everyone who donated in honor of our firm and to Attorney General Coakley for organizing this important effort,” said Berman DeValerio Partner Leslie R. Stern, who headed the firm’s team. “This is our fourth year participating in the event. We couldn’t be happier to associate our name with such a worthy cause, helping to provide meals to those who need them.”
Coordinating Berman DeValerio’s fundraising drive with Ms. Stern were Kristin Moody, also a partner in the firm, Beth D’Entremont, Alice McGonigle and Richard Lorant.
Participants in this year’s event included law firms, bar associations and district attorney’s offices. To see Attorney General Coakley’s news release recognizing Berman DeValerio and other organizations for their achievements in the Legal Food Frenzy, click here.
