Canadian Car Antitrust – Federal Action

Berman Tabacco was lead counsel in a nationwide antitrust class action captioned In re New Motor Vehicles Canadian Export Antitrust Litigation, No. 03-1532 (U.S. District Court, District of Maine). The firm represented car buyers who alleged that several of the world’s largest automakers conspired to restrict the import of less expensive new cars from Canada to the United States. Absent the alleged misconduct, plaintiffs alleged that the prices for new cars in the United States would have cost less for consumers during the relevant period. The lawsuit resulted in partial settlements totaling over $55 million, which funds have been distributed to class members. The firm continues to represent car buyers in a related action in California state court, which continues against one automaker defendant.
