Firm’s Client Aetna Insurance Wins Jury Trial Alleging Fraud By Surgical Centers

The Firm had previously written how its client Aetna Life Insurance Company sued seven San Francisco Bay Area outpatient surgical facilities, certain of its principals and a management company alleging that they fraudulently overcharged Aetna a whopping 771% by improperly referring Aetna-insured patients to “out-of-network” facilities run by the defendants. Now, three years later, the Firm is pleased to announce that Aetna achieved a unanimous jury verdict and was awarded $37.4 million, the full amount requested. The Firm, as co-counsel with the Sprague and Sprague firm from Philadelphia, through its partners Christopher T. Heffelfinger and Matthew D. Pearson and paralegal Stephanie L. Raney, actively prosecuted the case from the inception up until the start of trial, with Ms. Raney continuing to participate with trial counsel during the trial phase.
