On October 8, 2019, Berman Tabacco’s Boston office headed to the Greater Boston Food Bank for its seventh annual volunteer day. Twenty-four members of the firm spent two-and-half hours sorting pallets of food (including a lot of butternut squash!) into organized relief boxes for the food bank’s network of local food pantries, shelters, and other communities in need.
The combined effort of the group sorted through 22,080 pounds of food. According to food bank officials, this translated into providing 18,400 meals for those in need—the equivalent of feeding a family of four for 4 years. Berman Tabacco’s staff is proud to have helped the Greater Boston Food Bank’s goal of distributing one meal per day to every person in need in eastern Massachusetts.
“This annual tradition of service is a great opportunity for our Boston office to bond over our dedication to helping out at such a wonderful organization,” commented Boston Partner Patrick Egan.
The Greater Boston Food Bank’s customers include vulnerable populations. The food bank reports that, in 2018, it distributed 61.8 million pounds of food throughout 190 cities and towns in Massachusetts. More information about the organization is available at https://www.gbfb.org/.
